Lions Club Nontraditional Student Scholarship
The Schulenburg Lions Club is offering one or more $2,000 nontraditional student scholarships. The scholarship can be used for secondary education, going back to school, graduate studies, work certifications, technical school, nursing programs, etc. Applicants must live in Schulenburg or work in Schulenburg and live in the surrounding area. Applications are available by calling the Chamber of Commerce at 979-743-4514 or at the Schulenburg Public Library. Applications must be submitted to the Chamber office by 4 p.m. on Friday, April 25.
St. Michael, Weimar, Spring Festival
The St. Michael Catholic Church Spring Festival will be held Sunday, April 27 at Veterans Memorial Park in Weimar. A fried chicken/sausage dinner will be served at 11 a.m. for $14 per plate, with drive-thru takehome plates available at St. Michael Family Center.
Music will be provided by the Czechaholics, 11 a.m.; Mark Halata & Band, 2 p.m.; and The Blue Denim Band, 5 to 8 p.m. There will also be an auction (1 p.m.), bingo (2-6 p.m.), antique/classic car show, country store, cake walk, treasure chest, kids’games (fish pond, train ride, plinko, etc.) and bounce house (11 a.m. to 4 p.m.) Hamburgers, cold drinks and snow cones will be available.
Fayette County One-Day-Only Per Site Tire Disposal
Fayette County will offer tire disposal for one day only at each of these sites as follows: Tuesday, April 29 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Fayette County/Schulenburg Precinct 4 yard, 1801 West US Highway 90, Schulenburg; and Wednesday, April 30 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Fayette County Recycle Center, 210 Svoboda Lane, La Grange.
Fees are $5 for each car or passenger truck tire; $15 for each 18-wheelertype tire; and $30 for each tractor tire, maximum size 17.5 by 25.
BBQ Fundraiser for Black History Month Celebration
A barbecue fundraiser will be held on Saturday, May 3 at the Wolters Park pavilion from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (or until food runs out) to defray residual expenses from the 2025 Black History Month celebration.
The $13 plates will have a half barbecue chicken, buttered potatoes, pinto beans, bread and dessert. Delivery is available for purchases of 10 or more plates. For more information, call Robert Moore at 979-309-9158.
Schulenburg 4-H Rack of Ribs Fundraiser
Tickets are on sale for the fifth annual rack of ribs fundraiser for the Schulenburg 4-H Club. Cost is $30 per rack, which serves 3-4 people.
Drive-thru pickup will be on Friday, May 9 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at City Market, which is preparing the ribs. Tickets (pre-sale only) are available from any Schulenburg 4-H member or by contacting the club manager Dawn Hoffmann at 361-772-5843.
