Early Childhood Screening

Early childhood screening for children ages 3-4 who have significant learning and communication delays and who live in the Schulenburg and Flatonia school districts is being held fromTuesday, May 27 to Friday, May 30 in the Schulenburg School District.

Interested parents should contact the Fayette County Shared Service Arrangement at 979-743-4778 to set up an appointment.

St. James MBC/Bert & Bill’s Taxi Flea Market and Car Wash 

A flea market and car wash will be sponsored by St. James Missionary Baptist Church and Bert & Bill’s Taxi on Saturday, May 31 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Wolters Park pavilion.

Flea market tables can be reserved $25.The car wash is $5 (extra charge for interior cleaning). In addition, half-chicken dinners will be available for $13 as well as snow cones in four flavors. A special performance will be given by gospel rapper Chiante Lateef. Donations will be welcome.

Sacred Heart Church-Flatonia Spring Picnic

Sacred Heart Church in Flatonia will hold its spring picnic on Sunday, June 1 starting with Mass at 10 a.m. A fried chicken/stew dinner with potatoes, green beans, saurkraut and dessert will be served from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. (dine-in, drive-thru or walk-up) for $15 per plate.

An auction will start at 1:15 p.m. There will also be children’s games opening at 11:30 a.m., cake walk at noon, bingo at 2 p.m. and cornhole tourney at 3 p.m. Music after the auction until 8 p.m. will be by the Fender Bender Band. Hamburgers and gorditas will be available in the afternoon.

St. Rose Parish Picnic

St. Rose of Lima Parish will hold its annual picnic on Sunday, June 8 at the KC Hall. Fried chicken/sausage plates with potatoes, sauerkraut, green beans and dessert will be $14 each. Drive-thru will start at 10:30 a.m. and dine-in at 11 a.m. A live auction will start at 12:30 p.m. and there will also be a silent auction.

Music will be by the Matt Bonner Band along with Alvin Minarcik starting at 4:30 p.m. (after the auction). Hamburgers, tamales, tacos, nachos, pudding, etc. will be served starting at 3:30 p.m. There will also be bingo (1 to 5 p.m. in the school gym) cake/plant walks, country store, Jimbo’s Italian Ice and more. Kids’ activities will include water slides, ring toss, plinko, duck pond, bounce houses, face-painting, balloon artist, etc. For more information, visit strosecatholic.org.
