Praha Picnic (Pražká Pout)
The 170th picnic of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish at Praha will be held on Friday, Aug. 15. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m.
A stew/fried chicken dinner will be served starting at 11 a.m. for $15 per plate (dine-in or to-go). Music from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. will be provided by Czech &Then Some,The Dujka Brothers andThe Fender Bender Band.
An auction will be held at 1 p.m. and bingo from 2 to 6 p.m. There will also be a cake walk, country store, fish pond, ring toss, souvenirs and toy box. Food will be available throughout the afternoon and evening, with hamburgers served starting at 4 p.m. Ice cream will also be available. Schulenburg KCs Homestyle Meatloaf Dinner & Blood Drive
The Knights of Columbus will serve a drive-thru homestyle meatloaf dinner on Sunday, Aug. 17 at the KC Hall starting at 10:30 a.m. or when food is ready. Plates ($15 each) will include homestyle meatloaf, buttered potatoes, sauteed cabbage and sweet carrots.
In addition, South Texas Blood Bank will hold a blood drive on Sunday, Aug. 17 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the KC Hall parking lot. Each donor will receive a free meal provided by the KCs. For more information, contact Ed Kusy at 979-743-5879.
St. James Baptist Church Fish Fry
St. James Baptist Church will hold a fish fry on Friday, Aug. 22 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., with pickup at St. James Baptist Church, 1103 James Ave. Plates ($12 each) will include fried fish, baked beans, coleslaw, hush puppies and dessert. 2nd Annual Armed Forces Appreciation Dinner & Dance
The second annual Armed Forces Appreciation Dinner & Dance is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 13 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in La Grange, with a start time of 3 p.m.
Tickets are available from local veterans organizations for $20 each. The deadline to purchase tickets is Wednesday, Sept. 3.
