Mary Joyce “Joy” Baca passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2025 in Burkburnett.

The family received friends between 3 and 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16, 2025 at Owens & Brumley Funeral Home in Burkburnett. Funeral services were held on Monday, Nov. 17, 2025 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home, with Cliff Cooper officiating. Interment followed at Burkburnett Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home.

Joy was born on Feb. 22, 1937 in Quitaque to Willie and Dollie Woods. She was one of seven girls. After Joy graduated from Quitaque High School, she went to work at First National Bank of Quitaque. Joy met Douglas Wayne “Butch” Baca, the love of her life, when he came in to cash his paycheck. They were married on May 31, 1958 in Schulenburg. They had two girls, Kimberly Jean and Sandra Kay. Joy worked in banking in Quitaque, Vernon and lowa Park. She left the profession when she became “Mimi” to help with her first grandchild. She and Butch were members of Carter Lake Baptist Church in Bowie and First Baptist Church in Burkburnett. Joy enjoyed quilting and made many beautiful pieces for her daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also loved to crochet and was known for her crocheted names which she made for friends and loved ones. Joy loved her family fiercely and was always there for them.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Dollie Woods; sisters, Ada Lavelle Woods, Melba Jo Merrell, Janelle Smith and Willie Mae Gregg. She is survived by her beloved husband, Butch Baca; daughters, Kim Horn and husband Matt of Burkburnett, and Kay Sitgreaves and husband Andy of Huffman; her grandchildren, Kandy Jenks and husband Chris of Humble, Drew Sitgreaves and wife Kim of Huffman, Heather Mann and husband Rob of Prosper, Trey Horn and wife Kelsey of Burkburnett, and Jeff Sitgreaves and wife Nena of McKinney; her great-grandchildren, Callen Jenks, Graham Sitgreaves, Cameron Jenks, Briggs Sitgreaves, Skylar Mann, Harper Sitgreaves, Tate Horn, Collins Horn, and Anthony Sitgreaves. She is also survived by her sisters, Clara Ruth Davidson of Quitaque and Chlonez Starkey of Slaton.
