Christmas Decorating Contest
The deadline to enter the Schulenburg Chamber of Commerce Christmas decorating contest is Thursday, Dec. 18 at 4 p.m. Cash prizes will be given to first, second and third place winners in the residential division and trophies will go to first, second and third place winners in the commercial division.
Entries must be within a five-mile radius of town and have a Christmas theme. Residential winners will get cash prizes. Judging will take place on Friday, Dec. 19 between 6 and 9 p.m. To enter, contact the Chamber office (979-743-4514).
Crossroads Christian Fellowship Meal Pickup Reminder
Crossroads Christian Fellowship reminds those who obtained vouchers for its“grab-and-go”meal that the meal pick-up will be on Thursday, Dec. 18 from 6 to 7 p.m. at 2310 US Highway 90 about three miles west of Weimar. For pickup, the voucher must be brought and each individual needs to be present. There is a limit of four meals per household.
Shop Local Days
The Schulenburg Chamber of Commerce is promoting “Shop Local Days” thru Friday, Dec. 19.
To participate, spend at least $20 at five stores and receive a “shopping card,” which should then be turned in to the Chamber office to be entered in a drawing for cash prizes. Christmas Eve Service at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church
St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church invites the public to its Christmas Eve service, “Lessons of the Carols,” on Wednesday, Dec. 24 at 5 p.m. Holy Communion will be given. The church is located at 712 Summit St. (corner of Hillje and Highway 90).
Christmas Eve Service at Zion Lutheran Church
Zion Lutheran Church, 103 Keuper, invites everyone to come and worship on Christmas Eve, Wednesday, Dec. 24, at 6 p.m. The theme will be “Jesus is the Heart of Christmas.”
Christmas Candlelight Service at Freyburg Methodist Church
Everyone is invited to a Christmas candlelight service at Freyburg Methodist Church on Sunday, Dec. 21 at 6:30 p.m. (no morning service that day). The church is located northwest of Schulenburg at 4520 FM 2238. For more information, contact Junette at 979-743-0623.
Christmas Dinner For Those Who Are Alone
The annual Christmas dinner for those who are alone will be held on Christmas Day, Thursday, Dec. 25, from 11 a.m. until noon at the Schulenburg Hall, 405 South St. (available to Schulenburg residents only).
Plates will be served at the hall or the homebound can call Sheila Brossmann at 979-743-3576. There will be no drive-thru. RSVP is required by Saturday, Dec. 20. There will be a limit of two plates per family. The meal is sponsored by the Schulenburg Lions Club and Schulenburg Knights of Columbus.
Christmas, New Year’s Holidays
Most local businesses will be closed onThursday, Dec. 25 for Christmas and Thursday, Jan. 1 for New Year’s.
City of Schulenburg offices will be closed both Thursday and Friday, Dec. 25-26 for Christmas and on Thursday, Jan. 1 for New Year’s. During Christmas week, residential garbage pickup will be as follows: north side of town on Tuesday, Dec. 23 (usual day) and south side of town on Wednesday, Dec. 24 (a day earlier than usual). During New Year’s week, residential garbage pickup will be as follows: north side of town on Tuesday, Dec. 30 (usual day) and south side of town on Friday, Jan. 2 (a day later than usual).
Fayette County offices will also be closed on Thursday and Friday, Dec. 25-26 for Christmas and on Thursday, Jan. 1 for New Year’s.
