Sacred Heart Parish-Hallettsville Spring Picnic
Sacred Heart Parish in Hallettsville will have its spring picnic on Sunday, May 24 at the Hallettsville KC Hall.
A meal of fried chicken, stew, homemade cornbread dressing and trimmings will cost $14, with serving from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the hall and 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. for drive-thru plates. A short memorial will be given at 1 p.m. by Rev. Michael Rother.
Music will be provided by Kovanda Czech Band from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the main pavilion and Texas Sound Czech and Red Ravens for a free dance on the polka pavilion/biergarten. There will also be an auction (1 p.m.), cake walk, country store, religious articles booth and bingo. Hamburgers, nachos, popcorn, snow cones, lemonade, soda, etc. will be served all afternoon.
Memorial Day Service
The annual Memorial Day observance at Wolters Park will be held on Monday, May 25 at 10 a.m., sponsored by American Legion McBride Post 143, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Vietnam Veterans Chapter 870, Legion Auxiliary and VVA Associates.
Assembly of veterans will begin at 9:45 a.m. Guest speaker will be Schulenburg City Administrator Tami Walker. D’Vine Testament will perform patriotic songs, and Legion Post 143 will conduct the flag-raising.
Memorial Day Holiday
Most local businesses will be closed Monday, May 25 in observance of Memorial Day.
The Sticker will be closed and the deadline for all ads, classifieds, articles & photos for the Thursday, May 28 issue will be Friday, May 22 at noon.
Second Chance Closed on Memorial Day
Second Chance Emporium will be closed for donations on Monday, May 25 in observance of Memorial Day.
Second Chance Emporium, 841 South Reynolds, La Grange, is a resale store serving all of Fayette County. Second Chance accepts donations of items in good, working, usable condition from the public and resells them at low prices. The sales store is open on Fridays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Proceeds are distributed to nonprofits throughout the county.

Early Childhood Screening
Early childhood screening for children ages 3-4 who have significant learning and communication delays and who live in the Schulenburg and Flatonia school districts will be held from Tuesday, May 26 thru Thursday, May 28 in the Schulenburg School District.

St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church ‘90 Miles on 90’ Meal, Vendor Spaces
St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, 712 Summit, will serve barbecue brisket sandwiches and combo meals with chips & drink on Friday and Saturday, June 5-6 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. (or until sold out) in conjunction with the “90 Miles on 90” sale. America’s Birthday Decorating Contest
The Schulenburg Chamber of Commerce is holding America’s Birthday Decorating Contest in honor of this country’s 250th anniversary.
There will be a commercial division with trophies awarded and a residential division with cash prizes given. Deadline to enter is Monday, June 1; to enter, call 979-743-4514. Judging will take place on Saturday, June 13 and winners will be announced on Thursday, July 2.
