Legion, other groups place flags on veterans’ graves for Memorial Day
Over 1,200 flags were placed on th e graves of veterans in several area cemeteries, including over 675 flags at the Schulenburg City Cemetery and St. Rose of Lima Catholic Cemetery. A flag on the grave of Floyd James Seifert in the Schulenburg City Cemetery is shown in the foreground at right, as Armen Herzik carries more flags to be placed on veterans’ graves. Seifert (Feb. 3, 1929-Sept. 22, 1960) served as a corporal in the infantry in the U.S. Army Reserves.
Flags are being placed on the graves of Johnnie and Livia Tumis at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery by Harry Bartosch. Johnnie Tumis (Dec. 3, 1917-Jan. 17, 2007) was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army during WW II and received the Purple Heart. Livia Tumis (May 21, 1921-May 22, 2011) was a Legion Auxiliary member.
Volunteers fro m In venergy, which operates 7V Solar Ranch near Muldoon, walk along the road at the Schulenburg City Cemetery carrying flags to be placed on veterans’ graves. Invenergy not only provided volunteers to help with the project but also contributed financially toward the Schulenburg American Legion Post 143 flag fund.
