The Fayette County Commissioners Court signed a proclamation recognizing the 150th anniversary of Mount Olive Baptist Church at Armstrong Colony at its regular meeting on Thursday, July 23. Dexter Jones, one of the descendents of the Armstrong Colony founders, was on hand to receive the proclamation. Armstrong Colony was founded in 1874 by formerly enslaved men, women and families, and Mount Olive Baptist Church was organized in 1876 as the spiritual center of the Armstrong Colony. Present at the proclamation signing were (from left) Precinct 4 Commissioner Drew Brossmann, Precinct 3 Commissioner Harvey Berckenhoff, Jones, Fayette County Judge Dan Mueller and Precinct 2 Commissioner Clint Sternadel.
