Funeral services for Mrs. Pauline C. Whelan, 84, of Schulenburg, were held on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at 10 a.m. St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Schulenburg. The family received friends beginning at 9 a.m. with the parish rosary recited at 9:30 a.m. at the church. Interment followed in St. Rose Catholic Cemetery.
Pauline was born in Canton, Massachusetts, to parents Raymond and Leola Harding Bailey. After high school, she worked as a CNA at Massachusetts Hospital School, caring for the orphaned and disabled. Her love and devotion for caring extended beyond nursing, especially when she worked as a waitress at Jolly Chef restaurant in Canton. There, she was well-liked by the community for her charm and grace.
Pauline met the love of her life, Thomas, and shared wedded bliss for 63 years. Together, they had three children. Once her children were older, she went back to nursing, caring for patients in a nursing home. Her final career was home health until her retirement.
Pauline was deeply religious. She was always ministering to people, whether through her acts, or simply by being a friend and mentor. She will be remembered as an inspiration to others by her ministering God’s word and encouraging them through prayer.
Pauline is survived by her husband, Thomas Whelan; daughter, Tess Whelan and husband Larry; daughter, Dee Whelan; grandchildren, Kate, Theo, Emily, Sara, Jack, Elizabeth, Greta and Phoebe; sister, June Young; brothers, Jim, Raymond and Danny Bailey; as well as numerous extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her son, Ralph W. Whelan; and brothers, Mark and Paul Bailey.
