St. James Missionary Baptist Church Fish Fry

St. James MBC will hold a building fundraiser fish fry on Friday, Sept. 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with pick-up at St. James MBC, 1103 James Ave. The $12 plates will include fried fish, two sides and dessert. To reserve plates, contact Rev. Andrew Stafford at 979-997-1207 or 210-475-1992.

September Services at Restitution Revival United

Restitution Revival United, 702 Hillje Ave., will hold services on Saturday, Sept. 5, noon to 2 p.m.; Sunday, Sept. 13, noon to 2 p.m.; and Saturday, Sept. 26, church anniversary service, noon to 2 p.m. Pastor is Sha-Ron Heslep.

St. Mary, High Hill, Parish Picnic

St. Mary Catholic Church, High Hill, will celebrate its 166th year and America’s 250th birthday at the annual parish picnic on Sunday, Sept. 6. A flag-raising at 9:30 a.m. will be followed by dedication of the High Hill cross at 10 a.m. A polka Mass will be celebrated at 10:15 a.m.

A fried chicken/stew dinner with trimmings will be served starting at 10:30 a.m. for $15 per plate, with the drive-thru plates available (entrance from FM 2672 northbound only). Music will be by Texas Sound Czech and Mark Halata/Texavia during the day, with a free dance at night by Texas Sundown Band.

The auction will begin at 1 p.m. and cake walk will open at 11 a.m. Other activities will include a country store, duck pond, ring toss, train ride, souvenir booth, bounce house, etc. Hamburgers, nachos, High Hill sausage, etc. will be available. A fireworks show is scheduled for 9:30 p.m.

Sacred Heart, Hallettsville, Fall Picnic

Sacred Heart Parish will hold its fall picnic on Sunday, Sept. 6 at the KC Hall in Hallettsville. A meal of fried chicken, stew, homemade cornbread dressing and trimmings will be served from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. (dine-in) and 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (drive-thru) for $14 per plate. Rev. Michael Rother will give a short memorial at 1 p.m.

The auction will start at 1 p.m. Music will include Kovanda Czech Band at the main pavilion, 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Red Ravens and Dujka Brothers, free dance at the polka pavilion/biergarten, 1 to 8 p.m. There will also be a cake walk, country store, religious articles booth, bingo and silent auction. Hamburgers, nachos, popcorn, snow cones, lemonade, soda, etc. will be available all afternoon.

Labor Day Holiday

Most local businesses will be closed on Monday, Sept. 7 for Labor Day.

The Sticker will be closed and the deadline for all materials – advertising, classifieds, photos and articles – will be Friday, Sept. 4 at noon.

Veterans Appreciation Dinner & Dance

The third annualVeterans Appreciation Dinner & Dance will be held on Saturday, Sept. 12 at the KC Hall, 190 South Brown St., La Grange. Doors will open at 2:30 p.m. The event is open to all veterans and supporters as well as all citizens. Admission is $20 per person (presale only).
