Gladys Besetzny

Gladys Marie (Hrncir) Besetzny of Schulenburg passed away at Lavaca Medical Center in Hallettsville on Thursday, Jan. 21, 2021 after a short illness at age 85 years, 17 days.

Funeral services were held on Friday, Jan. 29, 2021 at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in St. John, with Msgr. John C. Peters officiating. Interment took place at Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Cemetery in Moravia. Pallbearers were Brent Bujnoch, Brad Rerich, Jason Fulton, Shannon Hrncir, Sean Fulton and David Besetsny. Honorary pallbearers were Madelyn Rerich, Brenley Bujnoch, Tatum Bujnoch, Laramie Bujnoch, Patricia Besetsny Canion, Deborah Warnken Hulsey and Gary McBride. Rosary was recited at the church at 10:30 a.m., prior to the funeral, led by Edward Kusy.

Born on Jan. 4, 1936 at Wagner Hospital in Shiner, she was the daughter of Anton V. and Marie Svoboda Hrncir. She attended Moravia School and Hallettsville High School. On July 24, 1956, she married Alvin James Besetzny at Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church in Moravia. A lifelong resident of the St. John area, she worked as an LVN for 50 years. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in St. John, KJZT and St. John Altar Society.

Survivors include three daughters, Sharon Bujnoch and husband Marcus of Schulenburg, Janice Kerzner and husband Walter of Hicksville, N.Y., and Arlene Smith and husband Phillip of Pflugerville; two sisters, Monica Fulton and husband John of Austin, and Patricia Upchurch and husband Paul of Seattle, Wash.; a brother, Anthony Hrncir of Schulenburg; four grandchildren, Brent Bujnoch and wife Amber of Schulenburg, Nicole Rerich and husband Brad of Weimar, Justin Kerzner of Studio City, Calif., and Tyler Kerzner of Hicksville, N.Y.; and four great-granddaughters, Madelyn Rerich of Weimar, and Brenley, Tatum and Laramie Bujnoch of Schulenburg. Preceding her in death were her parents and two brothers.

Schwenke-Baumgarten Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
