Alton Hafer

Alton Bruno Hafer, 98, of Schulenburg, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2025.

He was born on Feb. 23, 1927, in Beasley to Louis William Hafer and Minnie E. (Henrichsen) Hafer. Alton honorably served this country in the U.S. Army. He held membership at Faith Lutheran Church in Weimar as well as in the Hermann Sons, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Alton retired from Entex after 40-plus years of service. After retirement, Alton kept busy by traveling in their RV all over the USA with friends and the Allegro RV Club; doing woodworking (holiday yard cutouts, toys for children, belt and wallet racks); polka dancing and entertaining at nursing/ assisted living homes with the Polka Lovers Club; and playing dominoes with friends. This loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend will be missed.

In addition to his parents, Alton is preceded in death by his sister, Emma Hafer, and his brothers, Alvin, Willie, Clarence and Olin Hafer.

Survivors include his wife of over 76 years, Verdell L. (Dahse) Hafer; son, Gerald Wayne Hafer and his wife Gayle; daughters, Kathleen Louise (Hafer) Brockenbush and her husband Floyd, and Suzanne Hafer Strange and her husband Jon; grandchildren, Gregory Andres Hafer, Hannah Verdell Hafer, Victoria Leigh Strange, Eliabeth Lena (Strange) Perry and her husband Everard, and Karen Leigh Brockenbush; great-grandchildren, Elijah Micha Perry, Ephram Jon Perry and Ezra George Perry; along with extended family and friends.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2025, in the Chapel of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg, with Rev. Herb Beyer officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg. Pallbearers will include: Jon Strange, Greg Hafer, Everard Perry, Bobby Laughlin and Jeff Vogler.
