Billie Jean Christen, 86, of Weimar, passed away on Wednesday morning, March 2, at Parkview Manor Nursing Home, in Weimar.
Billie was born on July 7, 1935, to Agnes and Bill Konecny of Schulenburg. She attended St. Rose Catholic School and graduated from Schulenburg High School in 1953. After graduating, she worked at Farmers State bank in Schulenburg. In 1954, she married Milroy Christen of Weimar. Together they had three sons, Roy, Ben, and Bob. Billie raised her three boys as a stay-at-home mother. She was a member of the St. Michael Catholic Church, VFW Auxiliary, Catholic Daughters, and the Weimar Golf Club. Billie “Nanny” dearly enjoyed her nine grandchildren. She always supported them and never missed a game or tournament. She would follow them around on the golf course, cheer them on in the gym, or was in the stands as their number one fan. Nanny loved to cook and bake, and she was excellent at it. She enjoyed teaching her grandkids how to cook and always had baked cookies or goodies on hand. There wasn’t a day that her grandkids and great-grandchildren wouldn’t visit and a friendly game of cards, chicken foot, board games, or spoons would be played around her table. She also enjoyed playing golf with her friends and swinging on the swing in her backyard with her grandchildren.
Her generosity and friendly smile will be greatly missed by her family.
Billie is survived by her husband of 67 years, Milroy; sons, William Roy and wife Terri, Ben and wife Pat, and Bob and wife Peggy, all of Weimar; sister, Ann Holman of Weimar; eight grandchildren, Brian, Kay, Blake, Julie, Travis, Kyle, Kari and Katie; and eight great-grandchildren, Amy, Kendall, Kaylee, Bryce, Kortlyn, Tatum, Kullen, and Rowyn.
She was preceded in death by her parents, grandson Cory, and sister Julia Mae Kubala.
Visitation was held Friday, March 4, at St. Michael Catholic Church in Weimar, followed by the parish rosary at 10:30 a.m. The funeral Mass was at 11 a.m. and interment followed at St. Michael Catholic Cemetery in Weimar. Pallbearers were Brian, Blake, Travis and Kyle Christen, and Phil and Jack Holman.
