Daniel Gus Miksch passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2021 at 8:30 p.m. at Schulenburg Regency Nursing Center after a one-month illness. He reached the age of 89 years, 1 month, 20 days.

The funeral was originally set for Feb. 14 but was postponed due to the inclement weather. Services are rescheduled for Saturday, Feb. 20 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, followed by interment in the church cemetery. Named as officiants were Fr. Tim Kosler and Fr. Felix Twumasi of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and Pastor Lemae Higgs of United Evangelical Lutheran Church of Swiss Alp. Named as pallbearers were grandsons Daniel Miksch, George Miksch, Luke Anders, Nicholas Anders, Charles Miksch and Aidan Miksch. Named as honorary pallbearers were John Lincke, Matthew Minzenmeyer and Bryan Minzenmeyer.

Prior to the funeral, a rosary will be recited at 10:30 a.m. the church. Fr. Twumasi and Knights of Columbus members were named as rosary leaders.

Born on Dec. 20, 1931, he was the son of Gus and Emma (Pargac) Miksch. He attended St. Rose School and Schulenburg High School (ninth grade). He served in the U.S. Army in Fairbanks, Alaska. On May 19, 1957, he married Georgie Mae Matula at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Georgie passed away on July 7, 1992. On Oct. 16, 1999, he married Johnelle Graeter Minzenmeyer, also at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. A lifelong resident of Fayette County, he lived south of Schulenburg until 1999, and then lived at Swiss Alp. He was a dairyman and rancher, and served as Co-op director until 2000, and director of Colorado Valley ICA until 2010. He was a member of the Catholic Church, and served on the St. Rose Church financial committee until his death. He was also a member of Schulenburg Knights of Columbus Council 2902 and the Schulenburg Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed deer hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Johnelle Graeter Minzenmeyer Miksch; two daughters, Cecilia (Miksch) Anders wed to Steven Anders, and Catherine Miksch; five sons, Kenneth Miksch, Paul Miksch wed to Patricia (Leininger) Miksch, Mark Miksch wed to Jennifer (Benes) Miksch, Chris Miksch wed to Jennifer (Fuller) Miksch, and James Miksch; three sisters, Margaret (Miksch) Pavlicek and Rose (Miksch) Geissen and husband Dick; a brother, Edgar Miksch and wife Dorothy; and 16 grandchildren. Other survivors are a stepdaughter, Gale (Minzenmeyer) Lincke and husband Gary; two step-sons, Gary Minzenmeyer and wife Debbie, and Glen Minzenmeyer and wife Gina; six step-grandchildren; and nine step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Georgie Mae, in 1992, after 35 years of marriage; his parents, Gus and Emma Miksch; a sister, Gertrude, who died in 1963; granddaughter, Bridgette Miksch; step-grandson, Eric Minzenmeyer; and brother-in-law, I.J. Pavlicek.
