Dolores Sassin passed away at Schulenburg Regency Nursing Center on Sunday, July 26 at 10:15 a.m. at the age of 80 years, 6 months, 10 days.
The funeral was held on Monday, Aug. 3 at 8 a.m. at Schwenke-Baumgarten Funeral Home, with Fr. Tim Kosler of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church officiating. Entombment took place in the St. Rose Mausoleum. Pallbearers were Vernon Rerich Jr., Brad Rerich, Brian Sassin, Cade Matura, Julius Machicek Jr. and David Sassin. Named as honorary pallbearers were Connie Rerich, Katelyn Sassin, Kristen Sassin and Samantha Moore, grandchildren.
Born on Jan. 16, 1940 in Weimar, she was the daughter of Gus and Hilda Eschenburg. She attended Schulenburg schools. On May 3, 1959, she married Jerome Sassin Sr. in Schulenburg. She lived in Schulenburg for all of her 80 years and was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. She worked as a nurse for over 43 years, starting at an early age with Dr. Ihle. She then worked for Dr. DeRuiter and Dr. Mikesky, and Dr. Kocurek at Schulenburg Community Clinic. She touched many lives while working at Medical Associates and then Schulenburg Community Clinic. She was loved by her family very much. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and spending time with family at get-togethers.
Survivors include a daughter, Marleen Rickert of Hempstead; a son, Jerome Sassin Jr. of Schulenburg; and seven grandchildren and seven greatgrandchildren.
Her husband, Jerome Sassin Sr., and parents, Gus and Hilda Eschenburg, preceded her in death.
Schwenke-Baumgarten Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in her name to St. Rose Church or the St. Rose building fund.
