Dorothy M. Vavra of Weimar passed away on Saturday, July 2, 2022 at 12:40 p.m. at Parkview Manor Nursing Home in Weimar at age 87 years, 7 months, 4 days.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at 10 a.m. in Dubina at Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church (designated as a diocesan shrine earlier this year). Interment followed in the church cemetery, and Fr. Wayne Flagg officiated at the services. Pallbearers were John C. Vavra, grandson; Leroy Bacak and Lawrence Bacak, nephews; Leonard Kruppa and Gene Kruppa, nephews; and Jerry Vavra, nephew. Named as an honorary pallbearer was James C. Balcar, nephew.
Rosary was recited on Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at 7 p.m. at Schwenke-Baumgarten Funeral Chapel, led by Kenneth Miksch.
Born on Nov. 28, 1934 at Holman, she was the daughter of Joe and Annie Selzer. She attended Pecan School at Holman. On June 6, 1955, she married Johnnie Emil Vavra at Holman. She was a lifelong resident of Holman/Weimar area, a housewife and a member of the Catholic Church.
Surivivors include two sons, John A. Vavra and wife Becky of Weimar, and David M. Vavra and wife Leah of Brenham; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Joe and Annie Selzer; husband, Johnnie Emil Vavra; and a brother, Johnnie A. Selzer.
Schwenke-Baumgarten Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
