Dorothy Mae Vornsand Goedrich, 91, of Schulenburg died Friday, December 18. Private funeral services were held on Tuesday, December 22 at Schwenke-Baumgarten Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Kosler officiating. Interment followed at St. Rose Cemetery.

She was born on October 30, 1929 to Henry and Louisa Vornsand in Appelt’s Hill, south of Schulenburg. In 1948 she met the love of her life, William “Bill” Goedrich. Later that year, they were married on November 23. Together they had one daughter and two sons - Diana, Steve and Tommy.

Bill worked for Geo Source, a seismograph company. During the early years of their marriage, they moved from one state to another, wherever Bill’s work took them. As Bill and Dorothy started their family, they moved their home from one place to another where they set up a loving, nurturing home everywhere they went. In 1963, the family settled in Fort Stockton, where they lived until returning to Schulenburg in the 1970s.

Dorothy and Bill loved to go camping and fishing with family, taking weekend trips with them as often as possible. It was always so much fun to hear Dorothy and Bill’s stories about their travels and the camping, fishing and hunting trips. It didn’t matter how many times their stories were shared; they would always make everyone laugh and feel like they had been there. Each person would add their parts of the stories and everyone would laugh even more. Anytime friends came to family gatherings, Dorothy and Bill always made them feel welcome and there was no difference between family and friends. Everyone was treated as family.

Dorothy enjoyed working in her flower beds and vegetable garden; sewing and crocheting. She enjoyed cooking and baking for family and friends. Dorothy volunteered for Combined Community Action in Schulenburg delivering meals to the homebound and also serving meals at the Community Center. She volunteered with bingo at the nursing homes and community center before lunches were served. In May of 2000, Dorothy was nominated as an Outstanding Senior Citizen by the CCA. She was honored and presented with that award by the Texas Agricultural Service at its annual senior citizens fair in La Grange. Dorothy was a very wonderful, caring and loving wife, mother, sister and friend. She had such a strong drive to work hard, do good deeds and make caring gestures toward family and friends. She gave so much love to everyone. We will truly miss her very much; but she will never be forgotten.

Surviving Dorothy are her children & their spouses: Diana, married to Jim Brock; Steve and wife Rosie; and son Tommy who is married to Leann Kloesel. Other surviving family are: granddaughter Casey Goedrich; grandson Jarod Baccus and wife Joy; step-grandsons Julian Garcia and wife Molly; Enrique Garcia married to Jenny; step-granddaughter Lori Laguarta; step-great-grandchildren Marshall and Ross Laguarta; Shayne, Simone and Ronnie Afcan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
