Elliott Edgar Hoelscher passed away on Wednesday, July 29, 2020, at the age of 87.

He was born on Dec. 21, 1932 in Borden to Edgar Robert and Clara Michalek Hoelscher. He graduated from Weimar High School at the age of 16, and went to work in the oil field. He met Jeanette Brunner at a dance in Ammannsville, and they were married three years later. They moved to the Houston area and he began attending night school at the University of Houston, while working full-time during the day and growing his family. He received a bachelor’s of business degree in accounting and retired as executive vice president at Bowen Tools Inc. Prior to Bowen Tools, he worked at WKM and Western Gear.

Elliott and Jeanette had six children and eventually moved to the Spring Branch area where they have resided for 55 years. He put all of his children through college. Elliott was an avid deer hunter and loved hunting in the Texas Hill Country with his family and friends. His biggest joy was family get-togethers and being with his wife and children. His family was his hobby. He spent his retirement years traveling with his wife, and attending and supporting all of his grandchildren’s activities. He was an awesome “Popo.” His family writes, “We will all miss him greatly.”

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Howard Edward Hoelscher.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Jeanette of Houston; sons Robert and wife Martha of Cypress, and Terry and wife Dean of Caldwell; daughters Sharon Rodgers and husband Erich of Cypress, Connie Womack and husband Roger of Garland, Laurie Flack and husband Andy of Huntsville, and Jan Cox and husband John of Mansfield. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; six nieces and nephews; and a host of cousins, great-nieces, great-nephews and family friends who all adored him.

A funeral Mass (limited attendance due to COVID) was held on Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2020, followed by a gravesite service. Serving as pallbearers were Chesley Womack, Spencer Hoelscher, Miller Cox, Sterling Cox, John Verity, Tanner Strange and Ryan Langley.
