Eugene Henry Matura Sr.

Eugene Henry Matura Sr. was born on Aug. 15, 1939 in Dubina to Henry and Blasta Valicek Matura. On June 25, 1961, he married Regina Lillie Vornsand in Weimar. Gene has lived in Katy since 1951, where he was a member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Council. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming and spending time with family.

Eugene Henry Matura Sr. passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2020 in Houston at the age of 80 years.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Regina Matura of Katy; sons, Eugene H. “Junior” Matura Jr. of Katy and James Emil Matura and his wife Tammy of Lampasas; grandchildren, Luke Dunk and his wife Chelsea of Adamsville, Cade Matura and his wife Connie of Monaville, Callen Roundtree and his wife Lyndi of Katy, and Jake Matura of Lampasas; great-granddaughter, Azalie Dunk of Adamsville; brother, Ernest Matura of Schulenburg; sisters, Evelyn Meyer of Schulenburg, Gladys Machicek of Schulenburg and Edith Hartensteiner of Sugar Land; and numerous other loving family members and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Blasta Valicek Matura; and by a brother, Ervin Matura.

The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at the Schmidt Funeral Home East Avenue Chapel in Katy, where a rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday with Deacon Fred Dinges reciting.

Mass was celebrated at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 25, 2020 at the St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Katy, with Rev. Christopher Plant as celebrant. Interment was in Katy Magnolia Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jake Matura, Cade Matura, Luke Dunk, Callen Roundtree, Brad Lux and Jason McNeely. Honorary pallbearers were Chelsea Dunk, Connie Matura, Azalie Dunk, Lyndi Roundtree, Vince Morelli, Perry Sword and Terry Pope.

Funeral services were under the direction of Schmidt Funeral Home, 1508 East Ave., Katy, 281-391-2424.
