Forrest Charles Sommer

Forrest Charles Sommer, 87, of Houston, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2021.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Sept. 15 at St. Jerome Catholic Church in Houston, with Fr. Rafael Becerra officiating and interment in Woodlawn Cemetery in Houston. Pallbearers were Matthew Ross, Alan Paulk, Chad Upchurch, Byron Nelson, Steve Sodolak and Michael Sodolak. Honorary pallbearers were all of his nieces and nephews. Rosary was recited prior to the funeral Mass, led by Deacon Dan O’Dowd.

Born on Aug. 11, 1934 in Schulenburg, he was the son of Robert O. Sommer and Clara O. (Wick) Sommer. On Nov. 22, 1956, he married Dorothy Sodolak at St. Mary Catholic Church in Frydek.

Forrest worked at Cameron/Cooper/Wyman-Gordon and retired in August 1999 after 40 years of service. He was a member of St. Jerome Catholic Church in Houston.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Sommer; children, Denise (Michael) Riebold, Sharon (James) Ross, and Mark (Lori) Sommer; brother, Robert Sommer; sister, Nelda Nelson; four grandchildren, Stephanie (Riebold) Paulk, Matthew Ross, Erin (Riebold) Upchurch and Meagan Ross; and seven great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Robert and Clara Sommer; and a brother, Barney Sommer.

Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Woodlawn Funeral Home of Houston was in charge of arrangements.
