Harriet Kainer Bohac, 91, lovingly known as Nana by family, passed away Wednesday, May 14 at Schulenburg Regency Care Center. She was born on Sept. 13, 1933 to Anton and Anna Kainer.
She attended grammar school at St. Mary’s Parochial School in High Hill and attended Schulenburg High School where she graduated in 1951. She began her work career at the Schulenburg Sticker shortly thereafter and devoted 30 years to her position there. Harriet decided to change careers and she began employment at Schulenburg Printing & Office Supplies and retired after 18 years as a bookkeeper. To remain busy, she registered as a substitute teacher for Schulenburg ISD for approximately 5 years after she had retired.
Harriet married the love of her life, John Adolf Bohac, on June 10, 1956 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in High Hill with Rev. Joseph Jacobi officiating. She made her home in Schulenburg all her married life and raised two children, Ronald John Bohac and Deborah Ann Miksch.
As a lifelong area resident, Harriet was engaged in many community organizations including St. Rose PTA, served as a Eucharistic minister at St. Rose Catholic Church and was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and Hermann Sons Life Schulenburg Lodge 14 for over 50 years.
Nana loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was especially proud of their many accomplishments in school activities and sporting events. Harriet enjoyed weekend camping trips with her family and she and John went on extended trips with their friends, touring many states in their motor homes.
She is survived by her son, Ronald Bohac and wife Kathleen of Schulenburg; a daughter, Deborah Miksch and husband Dennis of Round Rock; grandchildren, Brandy Bosl and husband Adam of Schulenburg, Ryan Bohac and wife Monica of Pflugerville, Colby Bohac and wife Molly of Katy, Troy Bohac and wife Shyanne of Hallettsville, Ashley McKelvey and husband Tim of Liberty Hill, and Josh Miksch and wife Kelsea of Leander; and great-grandchildren, Collin, Camden, Caleb and Catelyn Bosl, Mia Canales, Paige, Brooks and Clara Bohac, Blair and Bryce McKelvey, Kara, Hayden and Bryn Miksch, and Oaklee and Bellamy Bohac.
Harriet was preceded in death by her husband John Bohac; parents Anton and Anna Kainer; brothers Wilfred Kainer and Daniel Kainer; brotherin-law, Lyttleton Fritsch; and sister-in-law, Vandeline Halliburton.
Services were held Wednesday, May 21 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, High Hill. Rev. Augustine Owusu-Peprah officiated at the Mass preceded by recitation of the rosary. Burial followed in St. Rose Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers were Harriet’s grandsons, Ryan Bohac, Colby Bohac, Troy Bohac, Josh Miksch, Adam Bosl and Tim McKelvey.
