Helen Marak of Schulenburg passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 24 at Schulenburg Regency Nursing Center. She was 90 years, 5 months, 12 days of age.

Helen was born to Edward and Ida (Miksch) Kleiber in Schulenburg on Aug. 12, 1930. She was the youngest of eight children. She attended St. John’s School. On July 18, 1949, she married Joseph Marak at Holy Name Church in Houston. Helen was a talented seamstress for all her years. She sewed or altered everything from bridesmaid’s dresses to work clothes – everything that could be sewn. She even made her only daughter’s wedding dress. She went to work for Baumgarten-Matula Company, where she was employed for 28 years before she retired. After her retirement, she was a Sons of Hermann Lodge 14 kitchen helper for many years.

She attended St. Rose of Lima Church and was very devoted to her faith. After attending Mass, she made sure everything was ready for the next Mass. She was a member of the Altar Society.

Family was everything to her. She enjoyed seeing and being with them. Her smile grew even brighter around them.

She is survived by three children, Larry Marak and wife Ona of Schulenburg, Gary Marak of Schulenburg, and Joan Ulrich and husband Joe of Weimar. She has 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe; parents; infant greatgranddaughter, Mylee Dippel; three brothers; and four sisters.

Visitation was held at Schwenke-Baumgarten Funeral Home on Friday, Feb. 26 and private rosary, funeral Mass and burial were held on Saturday, Feb. 27, with Rev. Felix Twumasi officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Kevin Marak, Eric Marak, Chris Marak, Mark Ulrich, Colin Ohnheiser, Ryan Wotipka and Myron Dippel.

The family requests donations be made to St. Rose School or a charity of one’s choice.
