Karl Josef Steinhauser

Karl Josef Steinhauser passed away at home on Tuesday, May 25, 2021.

He was born in Abilene on Dec. 18, 1995 to RJ and Susan Fike Steinhauser who raised him in Flatonia. Karl graduated from Flatonia High School in 2014 and Texas State Technical College in 2016. He married Kayla Adair on Aug. 10, 2019.

Karl was a light in the life of those who knew him. His kindness and good humor infected all around him, brightening anyone’s day and turning any event into a party. He was a fiercely loyal friend and partner, willing to do anything to support those that he loved. Karl loved the outdoors and was a consummate hunter and fisherman, skills he learned from his father RJ. He also loved animals and was a frequent dog (and other animal) rescuer, an art he learned from his mother Sue. Karl loved his family and friends, and never spent a moment alone if he could be with them instead. But more than any of these things, Karl loved his wife, Kayla.

Karl was preceded in death by his mother Susan Fike Steinhauser, grandparents JC and Bessie Fike, and Otto Steinhauser, and uncles James Allen Fike and Thomas Hefner.

Karl is survived by his wife Kayla; father RJ Steinhauser and his fiancé Susan Ivey; father-in-law and mother-in-law Greg and Stephanie Lafferty Adair; grandmother Helen Steinhauser; grandfather Frank Lafferty; grandmother Betty Talley Adair; brothers Cullen Machac and his wife Madison, and Luke Horton; sisters Savannah and Shelby Horton; nieces Ella and Emersyn Machac; and aunt and uncles David and Lucreta Fike, Mike and Cathy Steinhauser, Chester and Suki Steinhauser, Terri Hefner, Willie and Jamie Steinhauser, Jeff and Stephanie Steinhauser, Brad and Mary Lafferty, Jack Adair, and Randy and Kathy Adair Walker. He is also survived by his cousins AJ and Staci, DeAnn and Chris, Heather and Eric, Brendan and Randan, Annie and Brian, Nick, Megan and Lucas, Katy and David, Ted and Renee, Rachel, Alex, Lillie, Chip, Emma, James, Casey and Nicole. He is also survived by his extended family, Bernadine Kainer, BJ Meyer Terry, and Lori Janecka.

Pallbearers were Nick Steinhauser, Ryan Kellis, Tyler Kellis, James Lafferty, Charles Grant, Tanner Mitchan, Cullen Machac and Chris Hooper.

Visitation began at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 4, 2021 at Smith Funeral Home in Flatonia, with rosary at 7 p.m. on Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Flatonia. Funeral Mass was held Saturday, June 5, 2021 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Flatonia, with Fr. Gabriel Maison and Rev. Jeff Muehl officiating. Burial was at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Flatonia.
