Leon Anthony Severa

Leon Anthony Severa passed away on Friday, Aug. 26, 2022.

Born May 15, 1942 in Rio Hondo, he was the son of Albert and Josephine (Janacek) Severa. His early childhood years were spent on his parents’ farm located in Schulenburg. He attended Schulenburg High School, graduating in June 1960. After graduation, he joined the United States Navy, serving until October 1964. Beginning his career, he went to work for Cameron Iron for the next 23 years. Later, he worked for Dril-Quip until retiring at the age of 62. He then went back to work for Wachs Subsea until finally retiring for what he liked to say was the third time.

A few of his favorite pastimes were spending time at the lake with his brother-in-law Carl and always tinkering in the house and garage. After marrying the love of his life, Melba (Ellis) Severa, in 1966, the couple settled in Cypress and built the home they lived in together for 54 years. He was actively involved in St. Vincent de Paul with helping hands wherever he was needed. Leon also was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 11472. A family man, Leon was active in Scouts and all the extracurricular activities in which the boys were involved over the years. He was actively involved in St. Anne’s Catholic Church for over 55 years. He was able to spend his time fueling his passion for the outdoors by fishing, hunting and working on cars with the boys. Leon was a skilled woodworker, building all of the treasured built-ins in his home.

Leon was preceded in death by his parents and younger brother, Jerome “Jerry” Severa.

Leon leaves behind his loving wife of 56 years, Melba (Ellis) Severa; children, Shawn Anthony Severa, Stephen Alan Severa and wife Melissa Severa, and Corey Lee Severa and Cori Anderson; grandchildren Ashley Nicole Kelley and husband Justin Kelley, Miguel Antonio Severa, Tristan Alan Severa, Tess Avery Severa, Taryn Audry Severa, Georgia Grace Seay, Brooklyn Caroline Seay and Sarah Elizabeth Severa; great-grandchild, Kora Elaine Kelley; sister, Barbara Hammontree; and brothers, Thomas A. Severa, and Richard W. Severa and wife Anita Severa.
