Leona Marie (Kallus) Hoelscher passed away on Monday, Aug. 15, 2022 and joined her beloved husband in eternal rest.
The youngest of four children, she was born on Sept. 12, 1932 in Ammansville, TX to Rudolf and Mary (Holub) Kallus. Leona graduated from Schulenburg High School and earned her RN degree in Houston. She married Werner Hoelscher in 1956, and they enjoyed 50 years of marriage together until his passing in 2007. She took pleasure in her career in nursing before becoming a stay-at-home mom and taking care of her four children. While living in Houston, her weekends were spent in Dubina with her husband raising cattle and enjoying their land. They retired to Weimar in 1996.
Leona was from a generation that wasn’t afraid of hard work. She was often seen around town in her work clothes and rubber boots. She was still driving her tractor and working her cattle up until a couple of years ago. She was a force to be reckoned with, an incredible mother, and the world is a dimmer place in her absence.
She is predeceased by her husband; parents; one brother, Bennie Kallus; two sisters, Janie Kallus and Beatrice Machac; and one son-in-law, Terry Parrish.
She is survived by her son, Mike Hoelscher and wife Sandy; and daughters Denise Koenig and husband Tommy, Susan Bloodworth and husband Jim, and Nancy Parrish. She is also survived by one grandson, Christopher Hoelscher.
A funeral Mass was held on Friday, Aug. 19, 2022. Pallbearers were Tommy Koenig, Jim Bloodworth, Christopher Hoelscher, Ben Wagner, Tommy Holub and Marcus Demel. Honorary pallbearer was Dr. Kurt Kainer.
The family requests that memorial donations be made to St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 1010 Lyons Ave., Schulenburg, TX 78956 or Gardenia Janssen Animal Shelter, 240 Svoboda Lane, La Grange, TX 78945.
