Martha “Marty” Gunby (nee Biehl) passed away at the age of 102 years on Thursday, Dec. 10, 2020. She was born in Miami, Fla. on Oct. 12, 1918. Before moving to be with her son in Schulenburg, in 2016 Marty had lived in Satellite Beach, Fla. for 38 years.

Marty was pre-deceased by her parents, Albert and Minnie Biehl; her first husband, “Bernie” Hudson, a Navy fighter pilot killed in World War II only three months after their marriage; and Robert ”Bob” Gunby, a Navy bomber pilot to whom she was married 49 years, 11 months prior to his death in May 1996.

Marty is survived by her daughter, Renelle Gunby Edwards; son, Robert “RG” Kirk Gunby (Belinda); granddaughter, Ashley E. Lutes (Chris) of Anchorage, Alaska; grandsons, Kristofer “Kris” Gunby (Carly) of St. John’s, Fla.; Jr. Chief Petty Officer Stelle Gunby (Vannessa) of LeMoore, Calif.; stepgranddaughters, Kimberly Denham (Garrett) of Plum, Texas, and Jamie Bolding (Jeffrey) of Bastrop; 10 great-grandchildren; and one niece and one nephew.

Marty readily told everyone that God and her children meant more to her than anything else. Everyone who knew Marty knew how she truly embodied the Christian spirit. Marty loved being around people and would always volunteer to help if needed. Her infectious smile always made people at ease and happy because that was Marty’s nature! She was truly the kindest, sweetest, most gentle, most loving and most beautiful person anyone had the pleasure of knowing. As her grnaddaughter, Ashley Lutes, reflected: “Grandmama was a beautiful person, inside and out, while on earth. Heaven has now gained a beautiful Angel.”

Her family writes, “We miss you so much Mom, Grandmama, Nana, GG.”
