Paul Eugene Veselka, 69, passed away at his home in Schulenburg on Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2020 after battling cancer for six months.

Funeral services were held on Friday, Dec. 4, 2020 at 10 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Schulenburg, with Fr. Felix Twumasi officiating. A rosary at 9:30 a.m. at the church preceded the funeral Mass and was led by Ken Berger and Kenneth Miksch. Interment took place in Davis Greenlawn Cemetery in Rosenberg. Pallbearers were Paul Zapalac, Ken Berger, Kenneth Miksch, Dennis Johnson, Ed Kusy and Joe Kurtz IV. Named as honorary pallbearer was Harvey Schindler.

Born in Hallettsville on May 29, 1951, he was the son of Eugene and Henrietta (Ohnheiser) Veselka. He attended St. Theresa elementary school and Reagan High School, both in Houston. From 1971-73, he served in the U.S. Army. On Aug. 4, 1973, he married Barbara Baca at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Schulenburg; they had been married 47 years when he passed away. He lived in Houston for 36 years and upon retirement from ATT in 2009, he and his wife moved to Schulenburg where they have lived since. He was a member of the Roman Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and Lions Club. He enjoyed going to NASCAR races and was willing to help anyone.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara; a daughter, Melissa Veselka of Schulenburg; a son, Mark Veselka of Schulenburg; his mother, Henrietta Veselka; two sisters, Marilyn Yates and husband R.E. of Colleyville and Carolyn Moreno of Longview; and a brother, Dennis Veselka and wife Dawn of Oviedo, Florida.

Preceding him in death were his father, Eugene Veselka; parents-in-law, Jerome and Hilda Baca; two brothers-in-law, Leroy Kocian and Zigmund Pospisil; and a sister-in-law, Linda Baca.

Schwenke-Baumgarten Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
