Rosie Peters Shumbera, 95, passed away on Monday, Jan. 5, 2026 after a short illness.
Rosie was born on Feb. 2, 1930 in Weimar to John Paul Peters Sr. and Agusta (Krueger) Peters. On July 19, 1949, Rosie married Adolph Joe Shumbera Jr. and enjoyed over 55 years together.
Rosie enjoyed her seven grandchildren: Donnie Hoeinghaus, Dustin Hoeinghaus, Doreen (Hoeinghaus) Kittrell and husband Deke, Eric Billeck and wife Teri, Nikki Billeck, Kevin Shumbera and wife Sara and Kelly (Shumbera) Barnett and husband Casey.
Rosie enjoyed working on the farm alongside Adolph, gardening, canning, picking pecans, babysitting grandchildren and more recently playing bingo and dominoes with her many friends at Regency Nursing Center. In her earlier years, she enjoyed bus trips with friends and family to Coushatta.
Rosie was preceded in death by her husband Adolph Shumbera Jr., daughter Maxine Billeck, parents John and Agusta Peters, one sister Millie (Peters) Stock, and seven brothers John Paul Peters Jr., Emil, Joe, Eddy, Adolph, Leo and Frank.
She is survived by daughter Doris Hoeinghaus with husband Donald, son Melvin with wife Jane and son-in-law Paul Billeck along with many nieces and nephews. Rosie was blessed with 10 great-grandchildren: Colton Kittrell and wife Ashton, Cade Kittrell, Isabel Kittrell, Paige Delgado, Tanner Konvicka, Erica Billeck, Trey Billeck, Briggs Barnett, Riley Barnett and Jett Barnett.
Visitation was at Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus on Friday, Jan. 9, 2026 from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services were at Trinity Church in New Bielau at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2026 with Msgr. John Peters and Pastor Glen Schoeneberg officiating. Burial followed in the Weimar Masonic Cemetery in Weimar. Serving as pallbearers were Dustin Hoeinghaus, Deke Kittrell, Eric Billeck, Kevin Shumbera, Casey Barnett and Tanner Konvicka. Honorary pallbearers were Donnie Hoeinghaus, Trey Billeck and AJ Stock.
