Thomas “Tommy” A. Janda, 70, of La Grange, Texas, passed away on Friday, Dec. 30, 2022.
Tommy was born in La Grange on March 4, 1952, the son of Vastine and Bernice (Knapek) Janda. He married Karen Schertz on June 25, 1983, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in La Grange.
Tommy graduated from Bishop Forest High School in 1970. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in La Grange and worked as a salesman. His hobbies included hunting, softball, bowling, gardening, but most of all playing with his grandchildren. He never met a stranger and enjoyed visiting with friends and strangers alike.
He is survived by his wife, Karen, of 39 years; daughter, Kimberly Guettler and husband Erich of Round Rock, TX; son, Kyle Janda and wife Katie of La Grange, TX; two brothers, Leroy Janda and wife Virginia of Lakeway, TX, and Mark Janda and wife Sharon of Bartlesville, OK; five grandchildren, Sophie, Justin and Lucy Janda, and Aaron and Jacob Guettler; brotherin- law and sister-in-law, Allen Schertz and wife Connie; and numerous friends and relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law and father-inlaw, Annie and Bennie Schertz; and brother-in-law, Bennie James Schertz.
Visitation was held on Friday, Jan. 6, 2023, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Koenig-Belvill Funeral Home & Cremations in La Grange. Family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A rosary was recited at 7 p.m.
Funeral services were held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in La Grange at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2023. Burial followed at Hostyn Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart School Operations in La Grange or to Sacred Heart Catholic Church Altar Society in La Grange.
