Welgene H. Hoffmann

Welgene H. Hoffmann, 87, passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 4, 2024.

He was born Aug. 8, 1936 in Freyburg to Herbert and Minnie (Kaehler) Hoffmann. He was a veteran, having served in the Texas National Guard. He married the love of his life, Evelyn Kremling, and they spent the next 64 years working and playing together. Together they were the owners and operators of Hoffmann Drywall Company and helped construct many new homes. Both Evelyn and Welgene were musically inclined and played in several bands including playing with the “family band.” They shared their “gift” of music in life and traveled to all the local nursing homes playing polkas on the accordion for the patients. They brought much joy and happiness wherever they went. Welgene took excellent care of his beloved Evelyn when her health declined and surprisingly God called Welgene home first. May he rest in peace.

Survivors are wife, Evelyn Hoffmann; sister, Corine Stahl; brother, Gene Ray Hoffmann; sister-in-law, Dorothy Kremling; brothers-in-law, Luther Lorfing and Kenny Kremling; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Hoffmann, Pat Lorfing, Delores Heidaker and Dorothy Kremling (Kenny Kremling’s wife); and brothers-in-law, Marvin Kremling and Eugene Heidaker.

Rosary was recited at 9:30 a.m., with Funeral Mass at 10 a.m., on Thursday, June 6, 2024 at Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Shiner, with Rev. Bryan Heyer officiating. Burial followed in the Shiner Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers were B.J. Drehr, T.J. Kremling, John Paul Lorfing, Craig Hoffmann, Keith Cruz, Bradley Drehr, Justin Redfern and David Kolacny.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Shiner or Hospice of South Texas.
