Holman Catholic Church Picnic

The annual picnic of St. Wenceslaus Church will be held on Sunday, Sept. 17 at the parish grounds in Holman on FM 155 between La Grange and Weimar. A drive-thru-only meal will be served starting at 10:30 a.m. The plates will have fried chicken, sausage, buttered potatoes, sauerkraut, green beans, pickle and dessert, and will cost $12 each. An online auction will also be held, with bidding from Wednesday, Sept. 13 at 9 a.m. through Monday, Sept. 18 at 8 p.m. Items can be viewed and bids placed at www.charityauction.bid/HolmanPicnic.

St. Joseph’s Church Picnic in Moulton

St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Moulton will hold a picnic on Sunday, Sept. 17 at the St. Joseph’s Social Center. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. at the church. A fried chicken/stew dinner will be served from 10:30 a.m. until sold out (dine-in, drive-thru plates-to-go and meat-to-go). Cost will be $14 per plate. Music will be by Ken Brothers, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Fender Bender Band, 1 to 5 p.m. An auction will start at 1 p.m. There will also be train ride, ball throw, fish pond, ring toss, cake walk, plant walk, country store, etc. Hamburgers, snow cones, popcorn and more will be available.

Happy Tails benefitting Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter

The 2023 Happy Tails fundraiser benefitting the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter will be held at Freyburg Hall on Saturday, Sept. 23 from 6 to 10 p.m. Entertainment will be provided by Texas Unlimited Band. Weimar Knights of Columbus Chicken Fried Steak Dinner

The Weimar KCs will serve a drive-thru-only chicken fried steak dinner with sides on Sunday, Sept. 24 at the St. Michael Catholic Church Family Center in Weimar from 10 a.m. until sold out. Cost is $12 per plate.

‘Dress the Town’ for Shorthorn Homecoming

A “Dress the Town” contest is being held in conjunction with Shorthorn homecoming week, Sept. 25-29. Residents and businesses are invited to show their school spirit by decorating the exterior of their home or business for a chance to win a VIP experience for homecoming 2023. Deadline to enter is Tuesday, Sept. 26 and judging will be Thursday, Sept. 28. The homecoming game is Friday, Sept. 29. Schulenburg VFD Auxiliary Hamburger Steak Dinner

The Schulenburg Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary will serve a take-home-only hamburger steak dinner on Wednesday, Oct. 4 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the KC Hall. The plates ($12 each) will include hamburger steak with brown gravy, mashed potatoes, peas and carrots, corn casserole, roll and cookie. Hallettsville Sacred Heart HSA Apple Strudel Bake

The Hallettsville Sacred Heart HSA will hold its 71st annual apple strudel bake on Saturday, Oct. 14. Cost is $22 ready-to-eat and $18 unbaked. Pickup will be at the Sacred Heart Family Center in Hallettsville from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct. 14. Polka Lovers Club of Texas Museum Event

The Polka Lovers Club of Texas Museum in La Grange will celebrate donors, sponsors and community partners at an event on Saturday, Oct. 14 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Fair Pavilion on the Fairgrounds in La Grange. The schedule includes gathering, 11 a.m.; Mass by Fr. Jared Cooke 11:30 a.m.; buffet lunch, 12:30 p.m.; music/dance by Ennis Czech Boys starting at 1:30 p.m.; adjournment, 4 p.m.; and museum open house, 4 to 6 p.m. There will also be a silent auction (bring an item).
