Schulenburg ‘Shop Local Days’

The Schulenburg Chamber of Commerce is promoting “Shop Local Days” from Friday, Nov. 24 thru Friday, Dec. 22.

To participate, pick up an entry card at a participating retailer and spend at least $20 at five different locations (the card should be signed, initialed or stamped at each location). The card should then be turned in to the Chamber office by 4 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 22 to be entered in a drawing for gift cards or cash prizes. For a list of participating retailers, see the ad on the back page of this issue.

Lighted Christmas Parade and Santa’s Visit to Schulenburg

The Schulenburg Chamber of Commerce will host a lighted Christmas parade in downtown Schulenburg and “Party with Santa in the Park” on Saturday, Dec. 2.

Parade line-up will be at 5 p.m. (the line will start at the old Galipp’s parking lot) and the parade will begin at 5:45 p.m. A parade entry form appears on the back page of this week’s issue. After the parade, Santa will be at the downtown gazebo to hear Christmas wishes.

St. Rose HSA Pigs-in-a-Blanket and Ham-and-Cheese Rolls sale

The St. Rose School HSA is taking orders for fresh-baked pigs-in-ablanket and ham-and-cheese rolls. Cost is $20 per dozen and $11 for a half dozen. To order, call Carolyn at 979-743-4987, Gina at 979-561-6815 or the school at 979-743-3080. Deadline to order is noon on Wednesday, Dec. 6. Pick-up will begin at 3 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 8.

St. Rose School’s ‘Christmas Around the World’

“Christmas Around the World” benefitting St. Rose of Lima Catholic School will be held on Saturday, Dec. 9 at the Schulenburg Hall.

A children’s program will begin at 4:30 p.m., with a German auction starting 30 minutes after the program. A beef stew dinner (dine-in or take-out) will be served starting at 5:30 p.m. The International Food Court featuring foods from around the world will open at 5:30 p.m. There will also be a children’s carnival with inflatable playground, carnival games and cake walk. Weimar KCs Chicken Fried Steak Dinner

Weimar Knights of Columbus Council 2153 will serve a hand-battered chicken fried steak dinner with sides on Sunday, Dec. 10 from 10 a.m. until sold out at the St. Michael Catholic Church Family Center in Weimar. Cost will be $12 each for the drive-thru-only plates. There will also be a sportsman drawing.

Christmas Decorating Contest

The Schulenburg Chamber of Commerce is seeking entries in its residential and commercial Christmas decorating contest.

All entries must be received at the Chamber office by 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 13. Judging will be Friday, Dec. 15 between 6 and 9 p.m. Winning entries will be photographed on Saturday, Dec. 16 or Sunday, Dec. 17. There is no cost to enter. Entries must have a Christmas theme and be within a five-mile radius of Schulenburg. Decisions of the judges are final. Prizes will be given to the first, second and third place residential winners and trophies to the first, second and third place commercial winners.

Christmas Tree Decorating Contest

Voting by the public is under way from Wednesday, Nov. 29 thru Thursday, Dec. 14 in the Schulenburg Chamber of Commerce Christmas tree decorating contest being held at Momma’s at Sengelmann, 531 North Main St. Voting should be done during the restaurant’s regular business hours.

Businesses, organizations and individuals were invited to enter and decorate pre-lit trees furnished by the Chamber. Awards will be given for first, second and third places as well as a people’s choice award.

Christmas Dinner For Those Who Are Alone

The annual Christmas dinner for those who are alone will be held on Christmas Day, Monday, Dec. 25, from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the Schulenburg Hall. Plates will be drive-thru, or the homebound can call the CCA Center, 979-743-4036, or Sheila Brossmann, 979-743-3576. RSVP is required by Friday, Dec. 22. There will be a limit of two plates per family. The meal is sponsored by the Schulenburg KCs and volunteers.
