SISD taking referrals for Gifted/Talented program
Schulenburg ISD is now planning for the Gifted/Talented program and accepting referrals for students in kindergarten and grades 6-11 who may need services for school. This program is designed for students who exhibit intellectual and creative thinking abilities at an extraordinary level not normally served in the regular classroom. Services are provided only upon identification of educational needs of the student. Nomination/referral forms are available at each campus office and online through the school’s website at www.schulenburgisd.net. The form must be returned to the school by Friday, Nov. 8.
Praha All Veterans Day Ceremonies
The 62nd anniversary All Veterans Day ceremonies at the Praha Cemetery, honoring all veterans of all eras, will be held Sunday, Nov. 10.
A patriotic rosary will be recited at 8:45 a.m. and Mass will be offered for all veterans at 9:30 a.m. at the Praha Church. Assembly will be at 10:30 a.m. and the veterans memorial service will start at 11 a.m. A flyover by the Commemorative Air Force will take place at noon. Guest speaker will be Travis Seale, U.S. Army Major. There will also be a flower drop and music by the Weimar ISD band.
The ceremonies will commemorate 79 years of the end of World War II. Lawn chairs should be brought as seating is limited. A fried chicken dinner with trimmings ($13 per plate) will be prepared by the St. Rose Home & School Association. The event is sponsored by Praha Veterans Club and Vietnam Veterans Chapter 870, with participation from the American Legion, Catholic War Veterans, Disabled Veterans, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus and all veterans.
St. Rose HSA Veterans Day Dinner
The St. Rose HSA will serve a Veterans Day dinner on Sunday, Nov. 10 starting at 11 a.m. at two locations – Schulenburg Hall, 405 South St., and Praha Hall, 821 FM 1295. The to-go-only plates will have fried chicken, buttered potatoes, green beans, pickle and cookie. Cost will be $13 per plate (no tickets necessary).
Weimar KCs Chicken Fried Steak Dinner
Weimar Knights of Columbus Council 2153 will serve a hand-battered chicken fried steak dinner on Sunday, Nov. 10 from 10 a.m. until sold out at the St. Michael Catholic Church Family Center in Weimar. Cost will be $14 each for the drive-through-only plates.
Veterans Day Holiday
The Veterans Day holiday will be observed on Monday, Nov. 11 and some offices, including governmental entities, will be closed.

KC’s Fried Fish Dinner, Blood Drive & Food Drive
The Knights of Columbus will hold a fried fish dinner on Sunday, Nov. 17 at the Schulenburg Hall starting at 10:30 a.m. or when ready to serve. Cost will be $13 for the drive-thru plates with two pieces of Andy’s-style fried fish filets, homemade tartar sauce, buttered potatoes, pinto beans, coleslaw, two hush puppies and fresh-baked oatmeal cookie.
In addition, the South Texas Blood Bank will hold a blood drive and each donor will get a free meal provided by the KCs.
The KCs will also hold their fifth annual food drive benefitting the Schulenburg Area Food Pantry. Non-perishable goods and/or monetary donations will be accepted.
Ministerial Alliance Thanksgiving Service
St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church will host the Schulenburg Ministerial Alliance Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, Nov. 17 at 6 p.m. Pastor David Thompson will preach, and other area ministers will take part. A brisket barbecue meal will follow worship. Those attending are asked to bring a vegetable or dessert dish to share, if they can. All are welcome.
