Federal Offices including Post Office to be Closed Jan. 9 

All federal government executive departments and agencies, including the U.S. Postal service, will be closed on Thursday, Jan. 9 to honor Jimmy Carter, the 39th president of the United States, who died on Dec. 29, 2024 at age 100. He is the longest-lived U.S. president and the first to reach 100. The six-day funeral for James Earl Carter Jr. began Saturday, Jan. 4 and concludes Thursday, Jan. 9.

KCs Annual Barbecue Chicken Dinner

The Knights of Columbus will hold their annual barbecue chicken dinner on Sunday, Jan. 19 at the Schulenburg Hall starting at 10:30 a.m. or when the food is ready to be served (whichever is first). The drive-thru-only plates ($13 each) will include a half barbecue chicken, buttered potatoes, pinto beans and pickle.

A public dance featuring the Czechaholics will be held from 2 to 5:30 p.m. costing $10 per person.

In addition, the South Texas Blood & Tissue Center will have a blood drive in conjunction with the dinner. Each donor will get a free plate provided by the KCs.
