Weimar KCs Fried Catfish Dinners During Lent

Weimar Knights of Columbus Council 2153 is holding a drive-thruonly fried catfish dinner each Friday of Lent – remaining dates are March 15 and March 22 – from 5 to 7 p.m. or until sold out at the St. Michael Catholic Church Family Center in Weimar. Cost will be $13 per plate. The Catholic Daughters will be selling desserts.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Champion Valley ‘Best O’ Luck’ Bingo

The Boys & Girls Clubs of ChampionValley will host“Best O’Luck”bingo on Sunday, March 17 at The Oaks at High Hill near Schulenburg. Doors will open at 2 p.m. and bingo will be played from 3 to 7 p.m.

Tickets are $25 pre-sale and $30 that day. The ticket includes one bingo card; additional cards will be $5 each. Tickets are available at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Champion Valley or by scanning the QR code in the ad in this week’s issue.

Referrals Being Accepted for Gifted/Talented Program at SISD

Schulenburg ISD is planning for the Gifted/Talented program and accepting referrals for students in grades 1-5 who may need services. This program is designed for students who exhibit intellectual and creative thinking abilities at an extraordinary level not normally served in the regular classroom. Services are provided only upon identification of educational needs of the student.

The form must be returned to SISD by Friday, March 22. Nomination/ referral forms are available at each campus office and online through the school’s website at www.schulenburgisd.net.

Schulenburg Little League Fried Fish Dinner

The Schulenburg Little League will serve a drive-thru-only fried fish dinner on Friday, March 22 starting at 5 p.m. at the High Hill Hall. The $13 plates will include fried fish, beans, coleslaw, hush puppies and tartar sauce. Tickets are available from any Schulenburg Little League player and will also be available at the hall the day of the fish fry.

Easter activities at Schulenburg Public Library

Everyone is invited to come hug the bunny at the Schulenburg Public Library, 310 Simpson, on Saturday, March 23 and join in an Easter egg hunt. Participants should bring their own Easter basket. Activities will start at 10 am. The Easter egg hunt is sponsored by the Friends of the Schulenburg Public Library.

St. Rose Altar Society Palm Sunday Dinner

The St. Rose Altar Society will hold its Palm Sunday fried chicken dinner on March 24 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Schulenburg Hall. The drive-thru-only plates will cost $13 each and include fried chicken with all the trimmings. A bake sale will also be held.

Lions Club Nontraditional Student Scholarship

The Schulenburg Lions Club is offering two $2,000 nontraditional student scholarships. The scholarship can be used for secondary education, going back to school, graduate studies, work certifications, technical school, nursing programs, etc. Applicants must live in Schulenburg or work in Schulenburg and live in the surrounding area.

Applications are available by calling the Chamber of Commerce at 979-743-4514 or visiting the Chamber website. Applications must be submitted to the Chamber office by 4 p.m. on Wednesday, March 27.

Easter Sunrise Service at Freyburg Methodist Church

Freyburg Methodist Church will hold an Easter sunrise service on Sunday, March 31 at 7:30 a.m., with brunch afterward in the Fellowship Haus. For more information, contact Junette at 979-743-0623.

Joseph & Victor Stanzel Memorial Scholarship

The Stanzel Family Foundation is accepting applications for the Joseph & Victor Stanzel Memorial Scholarship, which offers up to $15,000 to deserving high school seniors living in the Schulenburg or Weimar school districts. Application deadline is Wednesday, April 3, and all eligible seniors are encouraged to apply.

Students selected will receive $1,500 per semester, renewable based on continued eligibility, to support their pursuit of a technical degree or certification, associate’s degree, or bachelor’s degree at any accredited university, community college or trade school.

Public or private school students should contact their high school counselor for information on how to apply. Home-schooled students must contact Melanie Ramirez of the SFF at melanie@stanzelmuseum. org.
