St. James Missionary Baptist Church Fish Fry
St. James MBC will hold a building fundraiser fish fry on Friday, July 3 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., with pickup at St. James MBC, 1103 James Ave. The $12 plates will include fried fish, two sides and dessert. To reserve plates, contact Rev. Andrew Stafford at 979-997-1207 or 210-475-1992.
Independence Day Holiday
Many local businesses will be closed on Saturday, July 4 in observance of Independence Day and some will also be closed on Friday, July 3.
Fayette County offices and City of Schulenburg facilities will be closed on Friday, July 3.
Most government offices will be closed on Friday, July 3 because when the federal legal holiday falls on a Saturday, it is observed on Friday. However, Post Offices will be open and mail will be delivered on Friday, July 3. Post Offices will be closed and there will be no mail delivery on Saturday, July 4.
Second Chance Emporium to be closed July 3-4
The Second Chance Emporium sales store and donations drop-off area (841 South Reynolds, La Grange) will be closed on Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4 in observance of Independence Day.
St. John Parish Fourth of July Picnic
St. John Parish will hold its picnic on Saturday, July 4 at the parish grounds in St. John. The“full old-time picnic”will start with Mass at 9 a.m. and a flag-raising at 10 a.m. A lunch of stew, fried chicken and trimmings (dine-in or take-home) will be served starting at 10:30 a.m. for $14 per plate. A free dance under the pavilion will also begin at 10:30 a.m. and feature Dujka Brothers, Red Ravens, Mark Halata & Texavia and Fender Bender Band. An auction will begin at 12:30 p.m.

St. John Picnic Guest Speaker
Guest speaker for the 10 a.m. flag-raising program at St. John Parish picnic on Saturday, July 4 will be Dennis Geesaman, former Flatonia mayor and city councilman. After an Air Force career, Geesaman retired from Southwest Airlines as a pilot and now resides in the Flatonia area. Geesaman is a nominee for the Texas House District 85 seat in the November 2026 election.
Dubina Parish Feast
Sts. Cyril & Methodius Church, Dubina, will hold its annual feast on Sunday, July 5, celebrating its 170th year. Polka Mass will be held at 9 a.m. A fried chicken/sausage meal with trimmings will be served starting at 10:30 a.m. Plates will be $15, with an express to-go line for take-home plates.
Music from noon to 7 p.m. will be provided by Mark Halata & Texavia and Lost Cause Band. There will be entertainment/amusements all day, including an auction at 1:30 p.m., bingo from 2-6 p.m., antique/classic cars on site and a country store with Dubina history books for sale. Hamburgers will be served from 3-9 p.m.
First Baptist Church Vacation Bible School
Vacation Bible School at First Baptist Church, 110 North Upton, will be held Monday, July 6 thru Friday, July 10 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. for youth finishing kindergarten through fifth grade. Schulenburg Knights of Columbus BBQ Pork Steak Dinner
The Schulenburg KCs will serve a drive-thru-only barbecue pork steak dinner on Sunday, July 12 from 10:30 a.m. until sold out at the Schulenburg KC Hall. The plates ($15 each) will include a 14- to 16-ounce pork steak, giblet rice, southwest corn and coleslaw. Reservations are not necessary.
Ascension Parish Picnic in Moravia
Ascension Parish will hold its picnic on Sunday, July 19 on the parish grounds in Moravia. A stew/fried chicken meal with trimmings will be served starting at 11 a.m. All plates will be $14. Drive-thru plates-to-go will be served from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Music day and night will be furnished by Mark Halata & Texavia and Czechaholics. An auction will start at 1 p.m. There will also be a cake walk opening at noon, bingo from 1 to 5 p.m., country store, games, kids’train ride, sand pile, hamburgers, refreshments, entertainment, etc.
