Friends of the Schulenburg Public Library Book Sale
Friends of the Schulenburg Public Library’s annual book sale is under way through Tuesday, May 21 during regular library hours. A large selection of new, old and ancient books will be available – children’s, young readers, fiction, history, crafts, etc. Prices start at 50 cents. The Schulenburg Public Library is located at 310 Simpson St.
Weimar KCs Chicken Fried Steak Dinner
The Weimar Knights of Columbus will serve a hand-battered chicken fried steak dinner with sides on Sunday, May 19 from 10:30 a.m. until sold out at the St. Mchael Catholic Church Family Center in Weimar. Cost is $13 each for the drive-thru-only plates.
Texas Czech Heritage & Cultural Center Slavnost
The Texas Czech Heritage & Cultural Center in La Grange will present Slavnost (“May Fest”) on Sunday, May 19, starting with a “Tribute to the Czech Immigrants” ceremony at 10:30 a.m..
A fried chicken meal will be served starting at 11:30 a.m. costing $13 per plate. Donnie Wavra & Friends Orchestra will play from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will also be Czech Village and museum tours, classic car show, gift shop, country store, pastry shop, drawing, etc. Food and drinks will be available all day.

Sacred Heart Parish-Hallettsville Spring Picnic
Sacred Heart Parish in Hallettsville will have its spring picnic on Sunday, May 26 at the Hallettsville KC Hall. A meal of fried chicken, stew, homemade cornbread dressing and trimmings will cost $13, with serving from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the hall and 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. for drive-thru plates. A short memorial will be given at 1 p.m. by Msgr. John Peters.
Music will be provided by Kovanda Czech Band from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the main pavilion and Texas Sound Czech and Red Ravens from 1 to 7 p.m. on the polka pavilion/biergarten. There will also be an auction (1 p.m.), cake walk, country store, religious articles booth, bingo and washer tourney (5 p.m.). Hamburgers, nachos, popcorn, snow cones, lemonade, soda, etc. will be served all afternoon.
Memorial Day Holiday
Most local businesses will be closed Monday, May 27 for Memorial Day.
The Sticker will be closed and the deadline for all ads, classifieds, articles & photos for the Thursday, May 30 issue will be Friday, May 24 at 10 a.m.
Memorial Day Service
The annual Memorial Day observance at Wolters Park will be held on Monday, May 27 at 10 a.m., sponsored by American Legion Post 143, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Vietnam Veterans Chapter 870, Legion Auxiliary and VVA Associates.
Assembly of veterans will begin at 9:45 a.m. Guest speaker will be Schulenburg Mayor Connie Koopmann. D’Vine Testament will perform patriotic songs, and Legion Post 143 will conduct the flag-raising.
‘90 on 90’ spaces, BBQ brisket & brisket sandwiches at St. Paul’s
For the annual “90 on 90” sales event set for Friday and Saturday, June 7-8, spaces are available on Highway 90 across the street from St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church. The 10-foot by 10-foot spaces are $15 each. Anyone interested can call Jana at 301-606-0775.
In addition, St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church will have brisket on Friday, June 7 with pickup at 9 a.m. Cost is $19 per pound (full or half available). To order, call Jana at 301-606-0775; deadline is Saturday, May 25.
St. Paul’s will also be selling barbecue brisket sandwiches during “90 on 90” both Friday and Saturday, June 7-8 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
First Baptist Church Vacation Bible School
First Baptist Church of Schulenburg, 110 North Upton Ave., will hold Vacation Bible School from Monday, July 8 to Friday, July 12 for youngsters who have completed kindergarten thru grade 5.
