Independence Day Holiday
Many local businesses will be closed onThursday, July 4 in observance of Independence Day.
Residential garbage pickup this week is as follows: north side of town on Tuesday, July 2 (usual day) and south side of town on Wednesday, July 3 (a day earlier than usual). Commercial garbage pickup runs as usual on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
The Sticker will be closed both Thursday and Friday, July 4 and 5.
St. John Parish Fourth of July Picnic
St. John Parish will hold its picnic on Thursday, July 4 at the parish grounds in St. John. The“full old-time picnic”will start with Mass at 9 a.m. and a flag-raising at 10 a.m. A lunch of stew, fried chicken and trimmings (dine-in or take-home) will be served starting at 10:30 a.m. for $13 per plate. A free dance under the pavilion will also begin at 10:30 a.m. and feature Dujka Brothers, Red Ravens, Mark Halata & Texavia and Nathan Colt Young. An auction will begin at 12:30 p.m.
There will also be a country store, cake walk, ball throw, ring toss, sandpile, hamburgers, snow cones, etc. A fireworks show is set for 9:30 p.m.

Guest Speaker at St. John Picnic
Guest speaker for the program starting at 10 a.m. at the St. John picnic will be retired Army Sgt. 1st Class Israel Tames. Highly decorated, Sgt. Tames served in Korea and Vietnam. St. John is proud to have him visit.
Dubina Parish Feast
Sts. Cyril & Methodius Church, Dubina, will hold its annual feast on Sunday, July 7, celebrating its 168th year. Polka Mass will be held at 9 a.m. A fried chicken/sausage meal with trimmings will be served starting at 11 a.m. Plates will be $13, with an express to-go line for take-home plates.
Music from noon to 7 p.m. will be provided by Mark Halata & Texavia and Lost Cause Band. There will be entertainment/amusements all day, including an auction at 1:30 p.m., bingo from 2-6 p.m., antique/classic cars and country store with Dubina cookbooks for sale. A washer tourney will be held at 4 p.m. with registration 3 p.m. (for more info, contact Mark Prihoda, 979-484-6094). Hamburgers will be served in the evening.
First Baptist Church Vacation Bible School
First Baptist Church of Schulenburg, 110 North Upton Ave., will hold Vacation Bible School from Monday, July 8 to Friday, July 12 for youngsters who have completed kindergarten thru grade 5. Hours are 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. To register, visit www.FBCSchulenburg.net.
Knights of Columbus Barbecue Pork Steak Dinner
The Schulenburg KCs will serve a barbecue pork steak dinner on Sunday, July 14 from 10:30 a.m. until sold out at the Schulenburg Hall. Cost will be $13 for the drive-thru-only plates, which will include a 14- to 16-ounce pork steak, giblet rice, black-eyed peas and coleslaw. Reservations are not necessary.
