47th annual Weimar Firemen’s Dinner

The 47th annual dinner benefitting the Weimar Volunteer Fire Department will be held on Sunday, Oct. 29 atWeimarVeterans Memorial Hall. Drive-thru serving will start at 10:30 a.m. and serving in the hall will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

All plates are $15 and will include turkey, dressing, sausage and trimmings. An auction will be held at noon.

Zion Lutheran Church Stew Supper

The 31st annual Zion Lutheran Church pre-deer season stew supper will be held Monday, Oct. 30 from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran parking lot on Keuper St.The carryout-only meal will include stew, bread, crackers and dessert. The $10 tickets (presale only) are available at the church office or Sticker office.

First Baptist Church Fall Fun Fair

A Fall Fun Fair for youngsters elementary school age and younger will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 31 from 5 to 7 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 110 N. Upton Ave., Schulenburg. The free event will feature bounce houses, trunk-or-treat, a photo booth, games, hayrides, hot dogs, popcorn, candy, etc. For more information, call 979-743-3621.

Citizen of the Year and Employee of the Year Nominations

Sunset Shopping in Schulenburg

“Sunset Shopping in Schulenburg,” sponsored by the Schulenburg Chamber of Commerce, will be held Saturday, Nov. 4 from 4 to 8 p.m. See the ad elsewhere in this issue for the 13 participating locations (some will also be serving refreshments).

In addition, a gift basket drawing will be held at Joe’s, 621 North Main. For every $10 spent during the event at participating merchants, a shopper will receive one ticket for the drawing. Shoppers can go to Joe’s and drop off their tickets in the baskets of their choice (15 baskets available, see ad). The drawing will be held at 8:45 p.m. and presence is not necessary to win.

Praha All Veterans Day Ceremonies

The 61st anniversary All Veterans Day ceremonies at the Praha Cemetery, honoring all veterans of all eras, will be held Sunday, Nov. 5.

A patriotic rosary will be recited at 8:45 a.m. and Mass will be offered for all veterans at 9:30 a.m. at the Praha Church. Assembly will be at 10:30 a.m. and the veterans memorial service will start at 11 a.m. A flyover by the Commemorative Air Force will take place at noon. Guest speaker will be Fayette County Judge Dan Mueller. There will also be a flower drop and music by the Moulton ISD band.

The ceremonies will commemorate 78 years of the end of World War II. Lawn chairs should be brought as seating is limited. A fried chicken dinner with trimmings ($13 per plate) will be prepared by the St. Rose Home & School Association. The event is sponsored by Praha Veterans Club and Vietnam Veterans Chapter 870, with participation from the American Legion, Catholic War Veterans, Disabled Veterans, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus and all veterans.

St. Rose HSA Veterans Day Dinner

The St. Rose HSA will serve a Veterans Day dinner on Sunday, Nov. 5 starting at 11 a.m. at two locations – Schulenburg Hall, 405 South St., and Praha Hall, 821 FM 1295. The to-go-only plates will have fried chicken, buttered potatoes, green beans, pickle and cookie. Cost will be $13 per plate (no tickets necessary).

Weimar KCs Chicken Fried Steak Dinner

Weimar Knights of Columbus Council 2153 will serve a hand-battered chicken fried steak dinner with sides on Sunday, Nov. 12 from 10 a.m. until sold out at the St. Michael Catholic Church Family Center in Weimar. The drive-thru-only plates will be $12 each.
