SISD taking referrals for Gifted/Talented program

Schulenburg ISD is now planning for the Gifted/Talented program and accepting referrals for students in kindergarten and grades 6-11 grades who may need services for school. This program is designed for students who exhibit intellectual and creative thinking abilities at an extraordinary level not normally served in the regular classroom. Services are provided only upon identification of education needs of the student.

Nomination/referral forms are available at each campus office and online through the school’s website at www.schulenburgisd.net. The form must be returned to the school by Friday, Nov. 10.

Veterans Day Holiday

Veterans Day will be observed on Saturday, Nov. 11, and some offices will also be closed on Friday, Nov. 10 for Veterans Day.

Chamber’s ‘Holiday in the Country’ Arts and Crafts Show

The “Holiday in the Country” arts and crafts show will be presented by the Greater Schulenburg Chamber of Commerce on Sunday, Nov. 12 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Schulenburg Hall, 405 South St.

There will be handmade crafts, Christmas décor, baked goods, purses, Scentsy products, Tupperware, wood crafts, wine décor, plants, crosses, aprons, jewelry, gift bags, etc.

Door prizes drawings will be held and the person must be present to win. Food and drinks will be available.

Weimar KCs Chicken Fried Steak Dinner

Weimar Knights of Columbus Council 2153 will serve a hand-battered chicken fried steak dinner with sides on Sunday, Nov. 12 from 10 a.m. until sold out at the St. Michael Catholic Church Family Center in Weimar. The drive-thru-only plates will be $12 each.

Thanksgiving meals for the needy from Crossroad

Crossroad Christian Fellowship invites families in need to receive a Thanksgiving meal. Anyone interested must pick up a ticket at Crossroad Christian Fellowship, 621 Lyons Ave., on Tuesday, Nov. 14 from 6 to 7 p.m. Proof of Schulenburg residency is required to receive the ticket.

One meal per household of turkey with sides will be provided. Meals can be picked up on Tuesday, Nov. 21 from 6 to 7 p.m. (please remember to bring the ticket).

Knights of Columbus Grilled ‘Moo & Cluck’ Dinner

The Knights of Columbus will hold a drive-thru-only grilled “Moo & Cluck”dinner on Sunday, Nov. 19 starting at 10:30 a.m. or when ready at the KC Hall. Plates ($12 each) will include grilled beef hamburger steak and chicken breast with gravy, vegetable rice, cheesy mixed vegetables and cranberries. Reservations are not necessary.

In addition, the South Texas Blood Bank will have a blood drive from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Nov. 19 in the KC Hall parking lot. Each donor will get a free meal provided by the KCs. For more information, contact Ed Kusy at 979-743-5879.

The KCs will also hold their fourth annual food drive on Nov. 19 benefitting the Schulenburg Area Food Pantry. Non-perishable goods and/or monetary donations will be accepted.

Christmas Tree Decorating Contest

The Schulenburg Chamber of Commerce invites organizations, businesses and individuals to enter its Christmas tree decorating contest which will be held at Momma’s at Sengelmann, 531 North Main St.

Pre-lit trees will be furnished by the Chamber, with decorating taking place on Monday, Nov. 27 from 4 to 7 p.m. Snacks and drinks will be provided Deadline to enter is Wednesday, Nov. 22 at 1 p.m. The contest will be limited to 12 trees. Voting by the public will be held Wednesday, Nov. 29 through Thursday Dec. 14 during the restaurant’s regular business hours.
