Over the previous holiday weekend, John C. Landa Jr. took this photo of a Least Grebe at Houston Arboretum & Nature Center. The Least Grebe, a very small water bird known for its piercing yellow eye, is an underwater diver, commonly seen in marshy ponds. These birds have a limited range in the U.S., and are more widespread in Central and South America.
