SONS OF THE REPUBLIC OF TEXAS
The next meeting of the Sons of the Republic of Texas, Monument Hill Chapter, will be held on Saturday, Feb. 29 at 10:30 a.m. at the Faison Home, 822 South Jefferson St., La Grange (just west of the Fayette Heritage Library, Museum & Archives).
A program will be given by Marie Watts on Nathaniel Faison and the Faison Preservation Society, which maintains the Faison Home.
Faison was a significant figure in Republic of Texas history, a significant landholder, and a prisoner of the Republic of Mexico in Perote Prison as a result of being part of the Dawson Expedition. Faison (ca. 1817–1870) was born in Tennessee and moved to Texas sometime in the 1830s, arriving in La Grange in 1839 to work as a land surveyor. He purchased land and seems to have been a merchant as well as a surveyor..
