TPWD recommends planting wildflowers in fall

One of the many things Texas is known for is the abundance of beautiful wildflowers that line hills and highways every spring. What many wildflower admirers may not know is that fall is the ideal time to plant wildflower seeds in preparation for those spring blooms.

Behlen gives program at Garden Club meeting

For the Schulenburg Garden Club meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 1, the room was filled with decorations that set the mood for the theme, “It’s Fall.”The serving table was decorated with hues of yellow, orange and brown.

Wagner gets Lamar Medal from La Fayette Masons

The La Fayette Masonic Lodge in La Grange recently presented the Mirabeau B. Lamar Medal to William “Bill” Wagner.The award is given to outstanding educators who have excelled in the field of education and made a significant contribution and impression upon their students and co-workers.

John C. Landa Jr.., the “Schulenbirder,” says he had excellent birding on Sunday morning, Oct. 20.He sent two photos of a pileated woodpecker (top two photos) taken at his farm southwest of town. Pileated woodpeckers are here year-round but more often heard than seen.
