Although the Shorthorns suffered a one-sided loss to Poth for a second straight year, last Friday’s game at David Husmann Memorial Stadium included some positive signs.
Schulenburg totaled 205 yards, with 119 passing, in the 48-7 loss after managing only 88 in last season’s 55-0 blowout. The Pirates posted their final score last week with 3:39 left in the game while, in 2022, they reached 48 points early in the third quarter.
“You look out there and we have four or five freshmen on the field at once going against you know who,” Horn head coach Luke Hobbs said, referring to the Class 3A Division II state finalists from a year ago. “So, a lot of good to take away from it. They fought hard. They’re doing exactly what we’re telling them to do.
