Stout defense, Janecek’s four TDs highlight Horn victory

Beyond the 35-21 victory, the Shorthorns’ first after 13 straight losses, lots of numbers show the team’s progress.

Last year against Burton, they gave up 454 yards rushing, allowed 56 points, and bullish back Tyrone Gilmon went for 193, averaging 16 yards per carry. Last Friday at David Husmann Memorial Stadium, the Panthers totaled only 186 on the ground and Gilmon was held to 99 yards on 22 carries.

“The defense was awesome,” Schulenburg head coach Luke Hobbs said. “We knew that they have one bullet in their gun and that is to run the ball down your throat. We handled them – we bent a little bit but we sure fought hard and the kids just kept hitting and kept hitting. It was a total team effort.”
