Cardinals start football practice

The St. Rose Cardinal football team started practice on Aug. 1 with 20 players. This season, the Cardinals have six games on the schedule, all on Wednesdays starting at 5:30 p.m. The home field for the Cardinals is the Schulenburg ISD Stadium. The 2023 schedule includes Sept. 13, St.

Brewers end Vets’ season in Community League semifinals

The Community League’s firstplace team, Austin County Brewers, advanced to the championship series with a 12-2 semifinal playoff win over the Weimar Vets this past Sunday in Sealy. The Brewers jumped out to a 5-0 lead through two innings and never looked back.

Vets fall 11-1 to Serbin in regular-season finale

The Weimar Vets traveled to La Grange this past Sunday, July 30 to take on Serbin at the Fairgrounds ball park for the final regular season game of the Community League. The Jackrabbits dominated to win 11-1 after the Vets went up 1-0 in the top of the first inning.

NVCW to hold 5K Ranch Run at Festival

The first weekend of August means that it is Schulenburg Festival time. In conjunction with the event, the 10th annual Navidad Valley CattleWomen Ranch Run will take place on Saturday,Aug. 5 at Wolters Park under the Pavilion.

Volleyball season kicks off with scrimmage, tri-match, tourneys

High school volleyball teams across the state were able to start practicing Monday, July 31 and the Lady Horns get their 2023 season underway with a four-team scrimmage on Friday, Aug. 4, followed by matches involving three schools on Tuesday, Aug. 8. Schedules for those dates: AUG.

Lady Horns finish second in summer league

The Lady Horn varsity went 21-3 in the regular season of the Schulenburg Summer Volleyball League and fell in the championship of bracket play against Columbus on Wednesday, July 19 to finish second.

Vets fall by three to Clippers

Weimar and Shiner matched each other with single runs in each of the first three innings last Sunday but the Clippers scored three in the top of the sixth to down the Vets 6-3 at Strickland Field.

Schulenburg Summer Volleyball League finishes up play last week
