Schulenburg American Legion McBride Post 143 recently presented a check for $300 to La Grange Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary 5254 to be used to buy toiletries and other comfort items for veterans seen at the VA clinic.

Local youngsters raise funds for flood victims

First cousins 9-year-old Chandler Bubela (daughter of Chip and Kim Bubela) and 11-year-old Kase Bubela (son of Chad and Lauren Bubela) have raised $1,169 through bake sales to aid the victims of the flood in the Texas Hill Country.

Animal Shelter statistics

As of July 11, total intake for 2025 at the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter stood at 967 – 438 dogs and 529 cats in need.As of July 4, the shelter had 149 animals in its care – 64 dogs and 85 cats.

CCA“Meals on Wheels,” located at First Baptist Church, serves frozen congregate meals or frozen meals to the homebound. Meals should be ordered two weeks in advance and will be delivered to the homebound, or may be picked up at the center on Mondays.

Available for adoption from the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter:The shelter is inundated with kittens! As of last week, the shelter had over 100 in its care and in foster waiting for a space. As previously stated, the shelter cannot adopt its way out of this situation year after year.
