The Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter is STILL at maximum capacity.In honor of National Mutt Day, the shelter is lowering the cost of adoption for all dogs to $50 until Dec. 2. Adoptions include age-appropriate vaccines, spay/neuter and microchip.

Combined CommunityAction’s “Meals on Wheels,” located at First Baptist Church, serves frozen congregate meals or frozen meals to the homebound. Meals should be ordered two weeks in advance and will be delivered to the homebound, or may be picked up at the center on Mondays.

Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter statistics

As of Nov. 8, total intake at the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter stood at 1,462 for the year – 660 dogs and 802 cats in need.As of Nov. 8, the shelter had 151 animals in its care – 78 dogs and 73 cats.

What’s happening at Senior Connections

It will be a very festive week at Senior Connections – everyone will get to celebrate together as one big family. Please note that Senior Connections will be closed the last week of November so staff and volunteers can spend time with their loved ones.

Local Food Pantry serves 154 families in October

The Schulenburg Area Food Pantry will be closed Thursday, Nov. 28 for the Thanksgiving holiday.In October, the Pantry served 154 families with a total of 474 individuals. The Pantry had three new clients with a total of 11 individuals. The amount of food given out was 8,630 pounds.

Holiday Hold’em wellness program to start Nov. 24
