CCA Meals

Combined CommunityAction’s “Meals on Wheels,” located in the Civic Center, serves frozen congregate meals or frozen meals to the homebound. Please call 979-743-4036 two weeks in advance for the meals, which will be delivered to the homebound or may be picked up at the center on Mondays.

Stanzel Family Foundation donates to two groups

The Stanzel Family Foundation reaffirms its commitment to community development by awarding grants to two impactful organizations, Fayette County Community Theatre (FCCT) and BRIDGE (Building Resilience Inclusion Diversity & Growth thru Education).

God’s Embrace Ministries sets retreat March 1-3

This Lent, God’s Embrace Ministries will offer a weekend retreat from Friday, March 1 through Sunday, March 3 at Cathedral Oaks Retreat Center locatd at 1225 CR 248 southwest of Weimar.

Eucharistic Holy Hour to be held at Dubina Church

On Saturday, Feb. 10, Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Dubina, the pilgrimage church of the Diocese of Victoria, will open its doors to pilgrims from near and far to take part in a Eucharistic Holy Hour at 11 a.m. The church is located at 4639 Piano Bridge Road off FM 1383 in Dubina.

Local Food Pantry serves 113 families in January

The Schulenburg Area Food Pantry served 113 families in January with a total of 308 individuals. The Pantry had one new client with a total of three individuals. The amount of food given out was 5,679 pounds. Food donated was 2,829 pounds. The volunteer hours were 332.

Animal Shelter statistics

As of Feb. 2, total intake at the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter stood at 128 for the year – 65 dogs and 63 cats in need. As of Feb. 2, the shelter had 110 animals in its care – 61 dogs and 49 cats.

The shelter always has a high number of bully breeds. Staff is constantly socializing them and teaching basic commands and manners. Many would make great pets. If you’ve considered adding a bully breed to your household, please consider adopting a fully-vetted, pre-screened shelter bully!

Texas Exes set food drive

The Fayette County Texas Exes are having a food drive to support the Schulenburg Area Food Pantry. Nonperishable food items can be dropped off from Friday, Feb. 9 to Saturday, Feb. 24 at the Schulenburg Chamber of Commerce office, 618 North Main St.
