PUCT approves new 621 area code for Houston area

The Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) has approved the adoption of an additional area code for the greater Houston area to accommodate continued population growth. The area is expected to run out of new phone numbers starting with the current 281/346/713/832 area codes in 2025.

The statewide Constitutional Amendment Election will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 7, with polls open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The Fayette County ballot will include a Fayette County Special Election and voters in Schulenburg ISD and Fayetteville ISD will also have ballot items.
